+1 Comics is a comic about four diehard gamers. These are pretty much the only characters, except for the one additional character that was introduced during the one story arc- which was probably my favorite section of the entire comic- “Where No Mower Dares” beat “Winning Apparel” in my mind primarily because I love the idea of inhuman carnage too grotesque to show on-screen, and because the comic hadn’t gone to color yet. The art is far from terrific- sorry Diz, but I’ve gotta be honest here, and other than during the story-arc, plot is next to nonexistant. However, the humor is pretty good, and although it hasn’t gotten a full laugh out of me, I have chuckled on several pages in the archive. One annoying thing is that it does not update with permalinks available, so my comments on them always link directly to the latest page. Overall, I’d say that this is a comic that could use some improvement, and that should be able to make that improvement.

Back on Earth

This comic is about Javis. Javis happens to be a “normal” guy who happens to be amazingly cruel considering that he was third in his class at… bible college? I don’t know, something like that. However, after his church closed, he started doing work at an insurance company with puppets as part of the staff. He also has some anime-fan friends, and the friend that he’s staying with has his own missile silo. Weird enough for you? But for being as short as it is, the plot does fit together amazingly well. There’s also humor on nearly every page, making it difficult for me to pick out a “worst” page. I settled on “Mixing Around” just because I don’t know most of those songs. Music doesn’t translate over to text very well usually. My favorite, of course, had to be “Doggie in the Window”. I was laughing out loud long before I reached the punchline. I just love violence too much. The only thing close to a complaint that I have is that the art is a little plain. But it’s still not bad.
